A franchise enquiry and a distributorship enquiry may use similar language while describing different businesses. Before discussing an investment figure, identify who the business serves and which tasks it must perform.

There is no universal commercial model behind either label. The actual agreement, product category and operating responsibilities matter more than the name on the proposal. Obtain professional advice on the contract and regulatory obligations applicable to the chosen arrangement.

Identify the customer and revenue flow

A showroom-led business typically focuses on consumer visits, product demonstration, quotations and order conversion. A distributor may focus on supplying multiple trade accounts, maintaining stock and collecting receivables. Some proposals combine these roles.

Draw the invoice flow: who buys from whom, who owns inventory at each stage, and who receives customer payment. Then draw the service flow: who surveys the kitchen, confirms compatibility, installs the product and closes complaints.

Compare the investment categories

For the showroom, model premises, fit-out, demonstration units, staff training, local lead generation and installation coordination. For the distribution role, model inventory, receivables, warehousing, delivery capacity and trade sales coverage.

Do not treat a quoted entry fee as total investment. Ask for the cash required to reach stable operations, including replenishment and a downside case with slower-than-expected sales. Keep refundable deposits and non-refundable expenditure separate.

Test the assortment fit

Built-in appliances may depend on measurements and kitchen-design coordination. Small countertop appliances may require less installation work but a different replenishment rhythm. A single floor plan and staffing assumption should not be applied to both without testing.

Ask how leads are allocated, who owns the customer relationship and how online enquiries or cross-territory sales are handled. These issues should be understood before committing to a territory or showroom.

Evaluate evidence before deciding

Visit operating locations where possible, speak to authorised references and review a realistic cash model. Avoid interpreting a brand's visibility as proof that every local operator earns an attractive return.

The decision should produce a clear operating role, an investment range based on documented assumptions and a list of unresolved obligations. Explore kitchen appliance distribution and market entry planning when selecting the route that fits your capabilities.
